Reflection releases Beam's open weights
The 501-billion-parameter model's Apache 2.0 checkpoints became available on October 16, after an October 5 preview promised weights later in the month. Hugging Face tested the release and says its full-precision weights occupy about 1 TB; it recommends four B200 GPUs for serving. Reflection's benchmark comparisons remain vendor claims.
ThereforeDevelopers can now run and adapt a large model themselves instead of relying on its preview access.

Meta's October 30 business terms permit crawling sites associated with business accounts
Nieman Lab found that the wording allows Meta to collect website content to train its products; legal experts say it could reach publishers' sites. Meta says crawler behavior will not change and site owners can use robots.txt.
ThereforePublishers must accept the terms to continue using Meta's business products.

Claude traces the origins of five NIST elliptic-curve seeds
Anthropic reproduced the prime-curve seeds using a timestamp-seeded pseudorandom generator; cryptographer Filippo Valsorda independently checked the result and says the limited seed-choice freedom rules out a proposed backdoor method. The result strengthens confidence in widely used cryptographic curves.

Google tests agents in supervised wet-lab experiments
Its VERID system uses virtual dry runs and hardware checks; across three rounds of aptamer experiments, Google reports confirmed on-target hit rates of 33.5% for myoglobin and 42.1% for α-thrombin.

Claude designs lower-gate-count quantum circuits
Anthropic tested eight primitives against an automated evaluator; one elliptic-curve design uses 17 times fewer gates but 12% more qubits than its smallest prior comparison.
